Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium Hosting Seven Games of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup

The Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, redeveloped in 2010 by our sports team, is set to host the 2019 AFC Asian Cup quarter-final on the 24th January and the semi-final on the 29th January. The stadium has already hosted five additional matches of the tournament, where 24 teams compete for the lotus-shaped trophy, designed by Thomas Lyte.

The multipurpose stadium, named after General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the home ground of local team Al Jazira, but also hosts a variety of football and cricket matches.

AFL Architects redeveloped the stadium ahead of the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup and in turn, increased its capacity from 15,000 to 42,056. The development also included a new hotel and conference centre as well two integrated towers which provide sustainable mixed commercial use.
