Charlotte Thornton

Interior Designer

What do you do at AFL?

As part of the interior design team, my role is to make inside spaces beautiful and functional, a role which I take very seriously. Modern humans spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, so these spaces can have a huge impact on how we feel and interact within buildings.

My role is therefore to ensure that the interior of any space is well designed, both aesthetically and functionally in equal measure to create a lasting positive impact on our clients. I achieve this through careful research into the context and a clear understanding of how the space will be used. This informs the space planning and overall design, the outcome being a holistic, well thought out and bespoke design.

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your role?

My passion for design and problem solving. I also love to learn new things - from new software to new ways of creating sustainable/ green interiors. I am always looking to learn, develop and challenge myself to become a better designer and to ultimately create the best projects for our clients.

What made you interested in your profession?

I have always been interested in art and design, with a particular fascination with buildings and architecture. Some of my earliest memories are having to stop at ‘pretty houses’ whenever I could. My first design software was The Sims!

Its always been my passion and drive to be an Interior Designer and, in a way, change the world for the better one room at a time.

What makes you get up in the morning?

My cats.
