Leaders Performance Institute: Training Facility Special Report

← Back to news & insight

Directors John Roberts and Phil Osborne have partnered with the Leaders Performance Institute to produce a Performance Special Report.

Read the report here.

The latest edition focuses on training and practice facilities from across the world of elite sport.

John and Phil joined a carefully assembled panel from the Boston Celtics, Toronto Blue Jays, Paris Saint-Germain and the UFC to discuss what the practice facility of the future looks like.

Key topics include the evolving demands of players, 10 key considerations when commissioning a new training ground, and influencing behaviours through facility design.

"The stadium is their theatre, their performance stage. But their home is their training facility."
Phil Osborne, Director, AFL Architects
"Teams and organisations see their training grounds as not only facilitators, but as extensions of their brand and a signal to their fans and stakeholders that they are seizing the lead ahead of their competitors."
John Roberts, Director, AFL Architects

This report follows on from the release of AFL’s winning design of the 22Ha, 2-billion-yuan Dalian Football Training Academy.

Last month, planning was also approved for AFC Bournemouth’s new state-of-the-art training facility.

The world of elite training facilities is as much a long-term investment as it is a continuous, iterative process to carve out a competitive advantage. It is often the role of the architect to translate a particular club’s ambitions into developments that provide distinct performance enhancements.

This report outlines the benefits of commissioning true experts in this niche field. Download it here.
