Wellbeing Garden at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary Shortlisted for Healthcare Estates Award

← Back to news & insight

We are delighted to announce that the Wellbeing Garden at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary has been shortlisted for Staff Wellbeing Initiative of the Year at the 2025 Healthcare Estates Awards, sponsored by IHEEM (The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management).

This award celebrates initiatives that place staff wellbeing and mental health at the heart of healthcare estates, a vision central to this project.

Wellbeing at the Heart of Design

Delivered in just one year and completed in June 2024 with no disruption to hospital operations, the Wellbeing Garden transforms a previously vacant brownfield site into a space that supports staff, patients and biodiversity.

Created in collaboration with Milieu Landscape Design, the garden offers a variety of carefully designed zones to nurture all aspects of wellbeing:

  • Physical wellbeing – safe routes and activity areas for yoga, walking, or running.

  • Mental wellbeing – private spaces for reflection, counselling, or meditation.

  • Social wellbeing – zones for group activities such as yoga or guided meditation.

  • Emotional and financial wellbeing – areas used for Employee Assistance Programme sessions and counselling with trained professionals.
